A Word From His Excellency Vice-President Of The Republic Of Côte D’ivoire

S.E.M. Daniel Kablan Duncan Vice-Président de la République de Côte d’Ivoire

With regards to the number of participants of the previous congresses, namely that of Istanbul (Turkey) in 2016, which brought together nearly 3000 delegates, Côte d’Ivoire is managing to host at least 3000 participants, knowing the particular interest shown by the African sister countries in that congress, which is unanimously considered as the Congress of the whole Africa.

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Alassane OUATTARA, is committed to the success of this major event, whose challenges are beyond the Ivorian framework and whose results will be recorded in the annals of the UPU, AFRICA and of COTE D’IVOIRE.

“The major challenge our country will face is that of organization. His Excellency the President of the Republic perceived it so well that he honored me in appointing me as the Chairman of the National Steering and Impulse Committee (CNOI) in charge of the organization of the 2020 Congress. My assistant for this mission is Mr. Amadou GON COULIBALY, Prime Minister, Head of Government, Minister of the Budget and State Portfolio.

On behalf of all the members of this Committee, I would like to make a solemn commitment to winning the challenge of organizing and ensuring the harmonious progress of the preparatory work for the 27th Congress of the Universal Postal Union.

This committee is structured as follows: a Steering Committee (COPIL), comprising a dozen ministries, chaired by the Minister of the Digital Economy and Post. COPIL supervises:

  • A Permanent Secretariat to the Organisation (SPO), in charge of the practical organization of the Congress, comprising 12 technical committees;
  • A Scientific Committee (SC) which, in conjunction with the UPU International Bureau,
    will work on all scientific aspects of the Congress.

Côte d’Ivoire has therefore taken all the necessary measures for the successful holding of the 27th UPU Congress in 2020 in Abidjan.

I reiterate here, the commitment of our country to take up this challenge, in the mobilization and unfailing solidarity, specifying that the Congress of Abidjan will also be an opportunity to highlight the cultural and craft know-how of Côte d’Ivoire and Africa.

Regarding this matter, I would like to welcome and renew Côte d’Ivoire’s sincere acknowledgement to all the African countries for their support since we made the announcement of our candidacy, by concretizing their solidarity through the creation of an African Support Committee (CAS), under the auspices of the Pan African Postal Union (UPAP).

Thus, everything is ready for a successful Congress in 2020. Abidjan eagerly awaits you…
Thanks in advance for your massive participation in the 27th Universal Postal Congress, which will be held in Abidjan, from 10 to 28 August 2020.
